Landscape is the most profound teacher. Through painting landscape over the years, my brushwork becomes an expressive response to elements felt and observed.
Rose Strang’s inspiration comes from the natural world, our relationship with it and the traces of memories it holds. Her process often includes research into history, literature and music.
Born and currently living in Edinburgh, she has exhibited throughout the UK at the Royal Scottish Academy, City Art Centre Edinburgh, Open Eye Gallery Edinburgh, Heriot Gallery Edinburgh, Resipole Gallery Scotland, Kilmorack Gallery Inverness-Shire, Fidra Fine Art Gallery, Limetree Gallery Bristol, The Demarco European Art Foundation, Corte Real Gallery Portugal and Gallery One Berlin. In 2018 she became a professional member of the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA)

In Rose Strang’s extraordinary paintings, no focal point is privileged. These are intensely dynamic paintings. Landscape, here, is not static backcloth or wallpaper … Water, in Strang’s paintings, is made strange again to the eye … astonishing in its persistence, dramatic in its presence.
